Visit to Special Education School, Vieux Fort Saint Lucia
On Wednesday 12th February two members of The Vieux Fort Children’s Society and their Peace Corps Volunteer spent the afternoon with the young people and their staff at the school. Bobby, Nichola and Helen were welcomed and shown to the room where they would be meeting the children. Everyone was keen to help and introduce themselves.
During the couple of hours the young people played educational, fun games watched a movie and enjoyed cake, biscuit and juice. The older pupils worked in teams on communication and cooperation skills. The younger ones joined in the fun games following instructions and enjoying the physical activity. They were supported by their teachers and other members of staff. Everyone had an enjoyable time. The afternoon ended with prayers led by the Principal.
The VFCS hope to give regular help and support to the school and other children in the community.

Feed Our Bodies So We Can Fuel Our Brain
It is commonly known that a hungry child cannot learn. It is difficult to concentrate and they lack energy. The Vieux Fort infant school has approximately 40 Children who attend school regularly without anything to eat. That is they do not have breakfast before leaving home and are not provided with snacks or lunch.
There is a school feeding programme providing lunch and snacks for impoverished children. The cost of lunch is EC$1.00 per day. The parents of these children do not have the finances to provide the children with even $1.00 a day, $5.00 per week. The Vieux Fort Children's Society is asking for your help to feed the children in Vieux Fort schools. All we need is a regular commitment of $1.00 a day per child. If you can provide more then perhaps we can stretch to assisting with snacks as well as lunch.
You can also donate healthy non perishable snacks and food items to our Charity Shop marked clearly school snacks. And we will ensure it is delivered to the school. Please bring all donations to our Charity Shop on the corner of Clarke Street and Hospital Road. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading this article and we look forward to your support.
